羸瘦（力追反杜注左傳羸弱也賈注國語病也許慎注淮南子劣也廣雅極也說文瘦也從羊𣎆力禾反聲也下色枯反考聲小也羸也減也說文癯也音衢少肉也從疒女厄反叜桑苟反聲也今通作瘦變體訛也）。

羸瘦 [emaciated and thin] (The first is fanqie: 力 + 追. Du [Yu's] commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: "*Lei* means weak." Jia [Kui's] commentary on the Guoyu says: "Sick." Xu Shen's commentary on the Huainanzi says: "Inferior." The Guangya says: "Exhausted." The Shuowen says: "Thin." It takes 羊 as semantic and 𣎆 [fanqie: 力 + 禾] as phonetic. The second character is fanqie: 色 + 枯. The Kaosheng says: "Small; emaciated; reduced." The Shuowen says: "*Qu* [pronounced 衢] means having little flesh." It takes 疒 [fanqie: 女 + 厄] as semantic and 叜 [fanqie: 桑 + 苟] as phonetic. It is now universally written 瘦, which is a variant and corrupt form).
