于闐 (tián-liàn [fanqie: 田練反]: the Da Tang Xiyu ji translates it as Gostana country; in the Tang language it means 'Earth's Teat'. The various barbarians call it Huotan; India calls it Kustan; the old name was Yutian, all of which are corruptions. According to records, this country presently belongs to the cities of the Four Garrisons of Anxi, being one of the garrisons. In that city there is a temple to the deva Vaiśravaṇa with a seven-storied wooden tower; the deity resides atop the tower and is exceedingly efficacious. Within its borders is Mount Gośīrṣa, where celestial deities often come to dwell. The mountain has a Jade River, in which fine jade is frequently washed down. The king of that country often collects it from afar to present as tribute. To the east, it is more than twelve thousand li from Chang'an).
