趾步（之爾反杜預注左傳云趾足也爾雅亦同下步字說文步行也從止從𱤻他未反相背重書即步字今俗用止下從少訛略也）。

趾步 (With the fanqie zhī-ěr [zhǐ]. Du Yu's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: "Zhǐ means foot." The Erya says the same. For the second character, 步, the Shuowen jiezi says: "To walk on foot; formed from 止 and 𱤻 (with the fanqie tā-wèi), two feet placed back to back, which forms the character 步." Popular usage nowadays puts 少 below 止, which is corrupt and abbreviated).
