挺特(亭鼎反廣雅挺出也考聲挺直也說文拔也從手廷聲廷字從[彳*、]餘丑反壬天頂反聲也[彳*、]字從彳丑尺反引之也下𦫀勒反考聲特雄也獨也說文朴牛也從牛寺聲也)。

Standing out preeminently (挺特: [first character pronounced] tíng-dǐng fan [tǐng]. The Guangya says: "To jut forth." The Kaosheng says: "Erect and straight." The Shuowen says: "To pull out." It takes shǒu [hand] as radical and tíng as phonetic. The character tíng derives from [彳*、] (yú-chǒu fan) and rèn (tiān-dǐng fan) as phonetic. The component [彳*、] derives from chì and chǒu (chǐ fan), meaning to stretch out. The lower character is pronounced hè-lè fan [tè]. The Kaosheng says: "Tè means male; solitary." The Shuowen says: "An uncastrated bull." It takes niú [ox] as radical and sì as phonetic).
