Māra's snare (魔罥; pronounced jue-xian fan [j-], also written 羂 or 𦌾: The Kaosheng says, "To catch with a rope; to entangle and bind," wan-ban fan [w-]. The Yunying says, "To bind and seize." It is formed from "net" (冈) with juan (肙, pronounced yi-xian fan) as phonetic. What the sūtra refers to as "Māra's snare" denotes the five desires; the Demon King uses these to bind sentient beings).
