Tuṣita (覩史多; a Sanskrit word. The name of the heaven suspended in the void within the Desire Realm. Anciently called doushuotuo (兜率陀), doushu (兜術), or doushituo (兜駛多); these are all corrupt, abbreviated, and incorrect Sanskrit. In the Tang language it is "Contented" or "Wonderfully Contented". The Discourse on the Realms and Grounds of Sages and Ordinary Beings says: "The lower heavens have much heedlessness, while the higher heavens are very dull and slow, hence it is called 'Contented'." Bodhisattvas destined to Buddhahood in one more birth mostly act as the king of this heaven; although they cultivate all ten thousand practices equally, among the ten perfections they specifically cultivate vigor. The *Vibhāṣā* treatise and the *Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra* say that this heaven has ground made of jeweled clouds, situated thirty-two myriad yojanas above the great ocean; four hundred human years make one day and night in that heaven, and their lifespan is four thousand celestial years; their bodies are two li in height).
