𡝩魅（上於驕反正體從示音示從芺於驕反今通作𡝩訛也左傳曰天反時為災地反物為祅釋名祅害也或作𧨶下眉祕反山海經云魅之為物人身黑首從目縱竪也說文云老物之精也從鬼未省聲也或作鬼象鬼生毛故從彡音杉）。

𡝩魅 (the first character is yú-jiāo [fanqie: 於驕反]; the standard form has 示 as radical and 芺 as phonetic, now commonly written as 𡝩, which is an error; the Zuo zhuan says when heaven violates the seasons it is a disaster, and when earth violates living things it is a portent [祅]; Shiming says 祅 means harm; also written as 𧨶. The second character is méi-mì [fanqie: 眉祕反]; the Shanhai jing says the creature called mèi has a human body and a black head, vertical eyes; Shuowen jiezi says the essence of aged things, having 鬼 as radical and an abbreviated 未 as phonetic; also written with 鬼 picturing the ghost and, because it grows hair, taking 彡 [sound shān]).
