牆塹（上匠羊反考聲垣也說文垣蔽也從嗇爿聲或作牆經從土作墻非也下僉艷反韻英小坑也案壍園畔坑也說文從土斬聲或從斬作塹亦通也）。

牆塹 Walls and moats: (The first character has the fanqie 匠羊 [qiáng]. The Kaosheng says: "A low wall." The Shuowen says: "A wall or screen." It takes 嗇 as semantic and 爿 as phonetic; it is also written 牆. In the sūtra text, it is written with 土 as 墻, which is incorrect. The second character has the fanqie 僉艷 [qiàn]. The Yunying says: "A small trench." I note that a moat is a ditch around a garden or estate. The Shuowen says it takes 土 as semantic and 斬 as phonetic; writing it with 斬 as 塹 is also acceptable).
