灰燼（辛進反方言自關而西秦晉之間炊薪不盡曰燼說文燼謂為火之餘木也燼從聿從火今通作燼誤也）。
灰燼 (Ashes and embers: [jin has] the fanqie 辛進. The Fangyan states: 'From the Pass westward, between Qin and Jin, unconsumed cooking firewood is called jin.' The Shuowen jiezi states: 'Jin refers to the wood left over by fire. Jin is formed with yu 聿 and huo 火.' Today writing it commonly as 燼 [with 盡] is an error).
