Yituo [nasal mucus and spittle] (the first character is fanqie: ti- + -ji; the standard form takes 'nose' and 'younger brother' as 䶏, or is written with 'cry' as in Yunying; it means nasal discharge. In the sūtra it is written with 'water' as 洟, whose original sound is yi. The Shuowen is also in error here: because the seal script character yi and the character di were confused, this mistake occurred, and people subsequently copied and used it. Today, several lexicons such as Yupian, Kaosheng, and Yunying all gloss it with fanqie: yi- + -zhi. The Hexagram Cui in the Zhouyi says, 'Weeping and lamenting with tears and mucus,' which serves as clear proof. Yi also means fluid from mouth and nose. The second character is fanqie: tu- + -wo; the Shuowen says it is oral fluid; sometimes it takes 'water' as 涶; the Kaosheng says it is saliva and froth in the mouth).
