恐愶（恐字從心𢀜聲音拱𢀜字從丮工聲音戟經作恐訛也下香葉反尚書曰愶從冈治廣雅愶怯也顧野王云以威力恐愶也正從三力經從三刀謬也）。

Frighten and intimidate (恐愶: the character for fear (恐) is composed of the heart radical (心) and 𢀜, pronounced 拱 [gǒng]; the character 𢀜 is composed of 丮 and 工, pronounced 戟 [jǐ]. In the sūtra written as 恐 is an error. The lower character [intimidate (愶)] is 香 [xiang] + 葉 [ye] [xié]. The Shangshu says: '愶 means to govern by intimidation.' The Guangya says: '愶 means cowardly.' Gu Yewang says: 'To intimidate by mighty power.' The correct form is composed of three 'power' radicals (劦); the sūtra writing it with three 'knife' radicals (恊/脇 variant) is erroneous).
