Sleeping and waking (shuiwu 睡寤: the first character is [pronounced with the] fanqie chui-lei 垂累. The Cang Jie pian says: “Desiring to lie down.” The Shuowen says: “Sleeping while sitting.” It is a phono-semantic character; lei 累 is pronounced like lei 類. The second character is pronounced wu 悟. The Mao commentary on the Shijing says: “Wu 寤 means waking.” Jue 覺 is pronounced jiao 教. The Shuowen says: “Waking from sleep and having speech is called wu 寤. It is composed of the 'dream' [component] 㝱 with wu 吾 as the abbreviated phonetic.” It is also abbreviated as 害. In the sūtra text it is written with the 'cave' classifier (xue 穴) over the 'heart' classifier (xin 心) as 𥧝, which is incorrect. The standard form takes the 'roof' (mian 宀) and 'half-tree-trunk' (pan 爿) classifiers).
