刖鼻(五刮反又音月鄭玄注周禮云刖斷足案此國古之肉刑斷足也譯經者誤用也前六十四卷中已誤書㓷耳案本文合書刵音而至反截耳刑名也書寫人不審也劓鼻刖足是其本字)。

Cutting off the nose (yuebi 刖鼻: [yue is pronounced with the] fanqie wu-gua 五刮, and also pronounced yue 月. Zheng Xuan's commentary on the Zhouli says: “Yue 刖 means cutting off the feet.” We note that in the ancient corporal punishments of this country, yue meant cutting off the feet; the sūtra translators used it erroneously. Earlier, in Fascicle 64, cutting off the ear was already erroneously written as yier 㓷耳. Examining the original context, it should have been written with the character er 刵 (pronounced with the fanqie er-zhi 而至), which is the name for the punishment of amputating ears. The scribes were not careful. Yi 劓 for the nose and yue 刖 for the feet are their original characters).
