Narrow defile (隘道: [the first character] has the fanqie ying + jie; the Guangya says: '隘 means narrow; precipitous'; Zheng Xuan's commentary on the Liji says: 'Confined'; composed of 阜 with 益 phonetic; it is also written as 阸; Du Yu says: 'The terrain is dangerous and uneven'; composed of 阝 with 戹 phonetic; 戹 is pronounced e).
