Incantation rites (祝術; upper [character] *zhōu* + *jiù* fanqie. Gu Yewang states: "Covenants and invocations focus on vows, serving ghosts and spirits to pray for blessings." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Derived from *shì* 示 and *kǒu* 口, with an abbreviated *duì* 兌. The *Yijing* says: 'Du represents shamans and mouths.'" It is also written as 呪 or 詶).
