被褥（上皮媚反論語曰必有寢衣長一身有半孔安國曰今之被也顧野王曰被即衾也下如燭反考聲云以繒綵衣氈曰褥被褥皆形聲字也）。

Quilt and mattress (被褥: the upper character is p[í]-mèi [fǎn]; the Lunyu says: "There must be sleeping garments, half again as long as the body." Kong Anguo says: "The bèi (被, quilt) of today." Gu Yewang says: "A bèi is a coverlet." The lower character is r[ú]-zhú [fǎn]; the Kaosheng says: "A felt mat covered with patterned silk or gauze is called a rù (褥, mattress)." Both bèi and rù are phono-semantic characters).
