逶迤(上畏為反下以伊反毛詩傳曰逶迤行可委曲其跡也漢書云水曲流皃也迤又音徒何反韓詩云逶逶迤迤如山如河德之美皃也言象山河之迃曲考聲云緩步徐行也說文並從辵形聲字也辵音丑略反俗呼走遶是也)。

Winding and sauntering (逶迤: the upper character is w[èi]-wéi [fǎn]; the lower character is y[ǐ]-yī [fǎn]. The Mao commentary on the Shijing says: "Winding and sauntering (逶迤) means walking in a meandering path." The Hanshu says: "The appearance of water flowing in curves." 迤 is also pronounced t[ú]-hé [fǎn]; the Han text of the Shijing says: "Meandering and vast, like mountains, like rivers; the appearance of the beauty of virtue," meaning resembling the winding curves of mountains and rivers. The Kaosheng says: "Pacing leisurely and walking slowly." The Shuowen gives both with the movement radical (辵), being phono-semantic characters. 辵 is pronounced ch[ǒu]-lüè [fǎn]; what is colloquially called 'walking around' is this).
