控轡（上空貢反毛詩傳云止馬曰控又云引也從手空聲下鄙媚反說文馬轡也從絲從軎軎音衛軎者說文云車軸頭鑯也象形經從亡作轡非也）。

控轡 (Holding the reins: the upper character has the fanqie 空 + 貢 [kòng]. Mao's Commentary on the Shijing says: 'To halt a horse is called kòng.' It also says: 'To pull.' Composed of 手 with 空 phonetic. The lower character has the fanqie 鄙 + 媚 [bèi]. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A horse's bridle/reins.' Composed of 絲 and 軎. 軎 is pronounced wèi. Regarding 軎, the Shuowen jiezi says: 'The iron cap at the end of an axle,' a pictograph. In the sūtra, writing it with 亡 as 轡 is incorrect).
