Bound and interwoven (the first character has the fanqie 鼈綿 [biē + mián]; Liu Zhao's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: '編 means to join and connect'; the Cangjie pian says: '編 means to weave'; Gu Yewang says: 'To arrange in order'; the Shuowen says: 'To string bamboo slips in order'; the Shenglei says: 'To bind objects in order using cords'; the second character has the fanqie 郎各 [láng + gè]).
