媿耻（上軌位反杜注左傳云愧慙也爾雅媿亦耻也說文同左傳從女鬼聲或從心作愧亦通下癡里反字書耻羞也考聲愧也說文辱也從心耳聲有從止作耻俗用並非正也）。

Ashamed and humiliated (媿耻) (the first character is fanqie: 軌 + 位; Du's commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "愧 means ashamed." The Erya says: "媿 also means shame." The Shuowen is identical to the Zuo zhuan; it is classified under the woman radical with 鬼 as phonetic; it is also acceptable to write it with the heart radical as 愧. The second character is fanqie: 癡 + 里; the Zishu says: "耻 means humiliation." The Kaosheng says: "Ashamed." The Shuowen says: "Disgrace; it is classified under the heart radical with 耳 as phonetic." There are popular writings under 止 as 耻, which are not standard).
