荖跌（上廁師反又音倉何二反並通下田頡反考聲參荖不齊等也王注楚辭云蹉跌不能盡力也說文差貳也不相值也許叔重注淮南子跌仆也方言偃地曰跌二字並形聲字也）。

荖跌 (the first is fanqie: 廁 + 師, also pronounced with the two fanqie: 倉 + 何, both are accepted. The second is fanqie: 田 + 頡. *Kaosheng* states: '參荖 means uneven and unequal.' Wang [Yi's] commentary on the *Chuci* states: '蹉跌 means stumbling and unable to exert oneself fully.' *Shuowen jiezi* states: 'Discrepancy and variance; not meeting each other.' Xu Shuzhong's commentary on the *Huainanzi* states: '跌 means to stumble and fall.' The *Fangyan* states: 'To fall prostrate on the ground is called 跌.' Both are phono-semantic characters).
