Scalding the body (燂身; the Shenglei gives the two forms 燂 and 燖. The Zijie gives the ancient forms 𤏝 and 鬻. Nowadays written as 燅, the same; pronounced with the fanqie xiang + lian. The Tongsu wen states: "Using boiling water to remove hair is called xun [燅]." The sūtra text writes 爓. Checking the Shuowen jiezi and others, the sounds are all with the fanqie yu + shan or yang + zhan, meaning the blazing of fire, which is not the meaning of the sūtra).
