剪拔（上煎衍反鄭注禮記云剪割截也杜注左傳云盡也說文從刀前聲下辨八反廣雅拔出說文拔擢也從手犮聲也）。

Cut and pluck (剪拔: the first [character] is jian-yan fan; Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary to the Book of Rites says: "剪 means to cut off and sever." Du [Yu]'s commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "To exhaust." The Shuowen jiezi says it derives from radical 'knife' [刀] with 前 as phonetic. The second [character] is bian-ba fan; the Guangya says: "拔 means to draw out." The Shuowen jiezi says: "拔 means to pull out; it derives from radical 'hand' [手] with 犮 as phonetic").
