車輅(上舉魚反象形字也下音路周禮天子有五輅玉輅金輅象輅革輅木輅杜注左傳云大輅玉輅皆祀天之車也說文云車軨前橫木也從車從路省聲也)。

車輅 [Chariot / carriage]: The first character is read with the fanqie 舉 [j-] + 魚 [-ū] (jū), a pictographic character. The second character is pronounced lù. The Rites of Zhou states that the Son of Heaven has five chariots: the Jade Chariot, Gold Chariot, Ivory Chariot, Leather Chariot, and Wood Chariot. Du's Commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'The Great Chariot and the Jade Chariot are both vehicles for sacrificing to Heaven.' The Shuowen says: 'The crossbar in front of the chariot railings; formed from 車 (cart) with an abbreviated 路 acting as phonetic.'
