悚慄（上粟勇反杜注左傳云悚懼也郭注爾雅慴也下隣窒反郭注爾雅戰慄憂慼也杜注左傳謹敬也說文並從心朿栗皆聲）。

悚慄 (the first character is sǒng, fanqie 粟勇 [s- + -(y)ong]: Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Sǒng means fearful.' Guo's commentary on the Erya says: 'Frightened.' The second character is lì, fanqie 隣窒 [l- + -(zh)it]: Guo's commentary on the Erya says: 'Trembling with fear and anxiety.' Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Prudent and reverent.' The Shuowen jiezi says both take the mind semantic, with cì (朿) and lì (栗) as respective phonetics).
