稗莠（上牌賣反杜注左傳云草也似稻而非稻也下音酉毛詩傳曰莠似禾而非禾待穟出方知別也說文形聲字也）。

稗莠 (The upper character has the fanqie b- + m- [bài]. Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan states: 'A weed resembling rice, yet not rice.' The lower character is pronounced yǒu. Mao's commentary on the Classic of Poetry states: '莠 [weeds] resembles grain, yet is not grain; only when the ear comes forth can one tell them apart.' The Shuowen jiezi notes it is a phono-semantic character).
