眵聹（上跢支反韻英云目汁凝也經文作[膗-隹+虫]非也撿諸字書竝無此[膗-隹+虫]字說文云目傷眥從目從侈省聲眥音疵賜反下寧挺反上聲文字集略云耵聹耳中垢也古今正字云從耳寧聲也）。

Eye discharge and earwax (眵聹: the upper character is duo + zhi fan. The Yunying says: congealed fluid of the eyes. The sūtra text writes [膗-隹+虫], which is an error; checking various character dictionaries, none has this character [膗-隹+虫]. The Shuowen jiezi says: injured eye canthi; it takes the eye signific and chi abbreviative phonetic. Canthus (眥) is ci + ci fan. The lower character is ning + ting fan, in the rising tone. The Wenzi jilüe says: 耵聹 is the grime within the ear. The Gujin zhengzi says: it takes the ear signific and ning phonetic).
