劬勞（其于反毛詩傳云劬勞病也韓詩劬數也古今正字從力句聲下老刀反賈逵注國語云勞疲也爾雅病也勤也說文云勞劇也從力從熒省熒從焱音炎冖癸營反用力者勞也）。

劬勞 (The first character has the fanqie *qi* + *yu* [qú]. The *Mao Shi* commentary states: "*Qúláo* means distressed and toil." The *Han Shi* states: "*Qú* means frequent." The *Gujin zhengzi* states: "Formed with *li* (strength) and has *ju* phonetic." The second character has the fanqie *lao* + *dao* [láo]. Jia Kui's commentary on the *Guoyu* states: "*Láo* means weary." The *Erya* states: "Ailment; toil." The *Shuowen* states: "*Láo* means intense. Formed with *li* (strength) and formed with *ying* abbreviated. 熒 is formed from 焱, pronounced 炎 [yán]; 冖 has the fanqie *gui* + *ying*. One who exerts strength undergoes labor (*láo*)").
