聾聵（古文䫭聵二形同今作貌又作𦗿同牛快反國語聵不可使聽賈逵曰生聾曰聵一云聾無識曰聵經文從肉作膭胡對反肥也膭非經義）。

Deaf (聾聵: the ancient forms are 䫭 and 聵, now written 聵 or 𦗿, pronounced kui [niu + kuai fan]. The Guoyu states: 'The 聵 cannot be made to hear.' Jia Kui states: 'One who is born deaf is called 聵.' Another source says: 'Deaf and lacking understanding is called 聵.' In the sūtra text it is written with flesh (肉) as 膭, pronounced dui [hu + dui fan], meaning fat; 膭 is not the meaning intended by the sūtra).
