淪永夕（廣雅曰淪沉也邇雅曰永長也夕夜也言生死界中常癡闇故謂之長夜也）。

Sunk in the eternal night (淪永夕: the *Guangya* says: "淪 [lún] means to sink." The *Erya* says: "永 [yǒng] means long; 夕 [xī] means night." It means that because the realm of birth and death is ever dark with ignorance, it is called the 'long night').
