瞿曇氏（具云瞿答摩言瞿者此云地也答摩最勝也謂除天以外在地人類此族最勝故云地最勝也或曰瞿曇彌或曰憍曇彌或曰瞿夷皆女聲呼）。

Gautama clan (*qutan shi*; completely rendered as *Gautama*; *gau* here means earth; *tama* means supreme; meaning that excluding the gods, among the human races on earth, this clan is supreme; hence it means supreme on earth.
