Agate (In Sanskrit, agate is called aśvagarbha. Aśva means horse here; garbha means brain or womb/receptacle. If pronounced aśmagarbha, it means 'stone receptacle'. As this gem comes from within rock, it should be called 'stone receptacle'. Because the sound for 'horse' [aśva] was confused with 'stone' [aśma], and 'receptacle' [garbha] was confused with 'brain' [gao/nao], it was mistakenly called 'horse-brain' [agate]).
