"Traveling and stationary merchants" (Gǔ is gong + hu fan. Zheng Xuan's commentary on the Rites of Zhou states: "One who sells while traveling is a shāng; one who sells while seated is a gǔ." The character gǔ is also written as jiǎ [賈]).
