打棒屠割（棒字正宜作棓或亦為抙今經本作棒字乃是榛之棒非打棓字然後有從手邊作奉者乃是棒持之字轉遠經意也廣雅日棓[垂-(乏-之)+廿]也又有木邊作咅者即曰棓杖之棓字體也）。

"Beating with cudgels and butchering" (The character for cudgel [棒] should properly be written 棓, or also as 抙. In the present text of the sūtra, it is written as 棒, which is the bàng of the hazel tree [榛], not the character for a beating club. Later, some wrote it with the hand classifier beside 奉, which is the character for holding [捧], straying even further from the sūtra's meaning. The Guangya says: "棓 means to strike." There are also forms with the wood classifier beside 咅, which is the exact character for a cudgel or staff).
