枯槁（槁苦老反說文曰槁木枯也鄭玄注周禮曰槁木乾也槁正宜作槁其槁音苦倒反杜注左傳曰槁乃勞義非經所用）。

枯槁 [Withered and dried up] (槁 is pronounced [in fanqie] 苦老. The Shuowen says: "槁 means withered wood (木枯)." Zheng Xuan's Commentary on the Rites of Zhou says: "槁 means dried wood (木乾)." The standard form is properly 槁; the character 槁 pronounced 苦倒 in Du's Commentary on the Zuo zhuan means toil (勞), which is not what is used in the sūtra).
