菡萏花（菡胡感反萏徒感反說文曰芙渠花未發者為菡萏已發者為芙蓉也漢書音義曰菡萏豐盛之貌也菡蓞二字玉篇作蓞𧂄字書作菡菌說文作莟蓞也）。

Lotus flower (菡萏花: 菡 is read 胡 + 感 fanqie. 萏 is read 徒 + 感 fanqie. The Shuowen says: 'The unopened flower of the fuqu (lotus) is called handan; the opened one is called furong.' The Hanshu yinyi says: '菡萏 describes an abundant appearance.' In the Yupian the two characters are written as 蓞𧂄; in character dictionaries as 菡菌; and in the Shuowen as 莟蓞).
