蓬勃（上蒲公反氣如蓬之亂起有作熢即㷭火之㷭火亦如無蓬音非也下蒲沒反勃盛也蓬勃繁盛之皃若塵起作𡋯火香作馞今言臭氣馞馞作馞亦得或如蓬繁亂有作㶿無所從也）。

蓬勃 (*peng bo* [billowing furiously]: for the first, *pu* + *gong* fanqie, vapor rising disorderly like tumbleweed; some write 熢, which is the 㷭 of beacon fires; smoke from beacon fires also has no *peng* sound, which is incorrect; the second is *pu* + *mo* fanqie; 勃 means vigorous; 蓬勃 describes an exuberant and dense appearance; if dust rises, it is written 𡋯; if fire fragrance, it is written 馞; nowadays saying foul vapor billowing is written 馞, which is also acceptable; or resembling tumbleweed disorderly and chaotic; some write 㶿, which lacks etymological derivation).
