(Physician; yú-qí fanqie [yī]. The Shuowen says: "A master who cures illness. Since the nature of a physician involves using alcohol (yǒu) to administer medicine, the character yī is composed of the radical yǒu (wine) with the phonetic yì; yì is also the groaning sound made by a sick person. Wine is used to cure illness because medicines cannot disperse without wine." 殹 is pronounced yú-xī fanqie [yī]. Some write 殹; in antiquity, the shaman Peng first created the character 毉, derived from the radical wū (shaman), which is a vulgar character).
