瘖瘂（上邑金反不能言亦瘂也下厄賈反埤蒼瘂亦瘖也有作瘖字林喑喑也喑子夜反有作啞字林乙白反笑聲也易云笑言啞啞非此之義也）。

瘖瘂 (Mute and dumb; the upper character has the fanqie yì-jīn [yīn], unable to speak, also meaning dumb. The lower character has the fanqie è-jiǎ [yǎ]; the Picang says: "Yǎ also means mute." Some write 瘖; the Zilin says: "Yīn means mute"; yīn is read zǐ-yè fanqie. Some write 啞; the Zilin gives the fanqie yǐ-bái, meaning the sound of laughter; the Yijing says: "Laughing and talking, yǎyǎ," which is not the meaning here).
