檛敱（上陟瓜反考聲云檛擊也聲類云檛捶也古今正字從木過聲或作𥬲下音古從豈從攴象敱旗手擊之也豈音註文音攴從半竹經從文非字也）。

檛敱 [beat the drum] (The first character has the fanqie 陟瓜 [zhua]. The Kaosheng says: "檛 means to beat." The Shenglei says: "檛 means to strike." The Gujin zhengzi analyzes it as having 木 as radical and 過 as phonetic; it is sometimes written 𥬲. The second character has the sound of 古 [gu]; it is composed of 豈 and 攴, depicting a drum, a banner, and a hand beating it. The 豈 has the sound and radical of 壴; the 攴 is composed of half of 竹. In the sūtras it is written with 文, which is not the correct character).
