魔怨（𢞀者是位處第六天主也論中釋斷慧命故名為魔又常行放逸而自容身故名魔言波旬者訛也正言波卑夜是其名也此云惡者常有惡意成就惡法成就惡惠故名波旬經中作魔波旬者存二音也）。

魔怨 [Māra-adversary] (Māra is the sovereign situated in the sixth heaven. In the treatises it is explained: because he severs the life of wisdom, he is called Māra. Moreover, because he always indulges in heedlessness and accommodates himself, he is called Māra. Calling him Pāpīyān (Poxun) is a corruption; the correct Sanskrit is Pāpīyas, which is his name. Here it is rendered 'Evil One' (e zhe). Because he always harbors evil thoughts, accomplishes evil dharmas, and accomplishes evil wisdom, he is called Pāpīyān. In the sūtras, the form 'Demon Pāpīyān' (Mo Poxun) preserves both transcriptions).
