隧級（辭醉反下音急掘地通路曰隧隧徑也聲類隧延道也級階次也案西域井如此方古井也掘地為隧施安澄級入中取水也舊經言丘井者非當梵名故依本譯也）。

Subterranean steps (隧級; [隧 is] fanqie 辭醉; the lower character [級] sounds like 急; digging into the ground to create a pathway is called *sui*; *sui* is a path; the *Shenglei* states: "*Sui* is an extended passage"; *ji* denotes steps or tiers. In the Western Regions, wells are like the ancient wells here: they dig into the earth to make a tunnel and construct clear steps to go down and draw water. The older scripture's "hill well" [丘井] did not correspond to the Sanskrit, so it was translated according to the original).
