Giant softshell turtle and alligator (黿鼉; the upper character is fanqie 魚袁; the lower character is fanqie 徒多; the *Sancang* states: "A *yuan* is a large softshell turtle; a *tuo* resembles a hornless dragon but is larger." The *Shanhaijing* says: "The river waters abound in *tuo*." Guo Pu said: "It resembles a lizard; the large ones are one *zhang* long, with colorful scales, and its hide can be made into drums").
