Deer Park (鹿苑; the upper character is fanqie 籠谷; the lower character is fanqie 冤阮; according to the *Record of the Western Regions*, it is the name of a park in the country of Vārāṇasī, also called the Deer Wilds Park [鹿野苑], or the Grove of the Bestowal of Deer [施鹿林]; the older translation calls it the country of Benares [波羅奈]; it is also where the Tathāgata first turned the wheel of the Dharma).
