㑴掠（下力尚反又音略字書云拷擊也考聲云強取也蒼頡篇搒也笞也或從刀作剠訓釋並同上准經義時俗並音略切韻略字韻中無此字唯方言略釋云求於道路曰略即強取財也杜預曰不以道取為略賈逵曰奪取也說文作略云經略土地也從田各聲於義亦通兩字二音三體訓釋如上取捨前後任隨所見）。

㑴掠 (*qīnlüè*, to plunder; the lower character has the fanqie 力尚 [*lì* + *shàng*], and is also pronounced *lüè*. The character book says: "To beat and strike." The *Kaosheng* says: "To seize by force." The *Cang Jie pian* says: "To whip; to flog." It is also written with the knife radical as 剠, whose gloss is identical to the above. According to the meaning of the sūtra and contemporary popular usage, both are pronounced *lüè*. In the *Qieyun*, under the rhyme *lüè*, this character does not occur; only in the *Fangyan*, the gloss for *lüè* states: "Seeking upon the roadway is called *lüè*," which means seizing property by force. Du Yu says: "To take without righteousness is *lüè*." Jia Kui says: "To seize and plunder." The *Shuowen* writes it as 略, saying: "To manage and demarcate territory; it is composed of 田 with 各 as phonetic." It is also acceptable in meaning. These two characters have two pronunciations and three forms; the glosses and explanations are as above, and one may adopt either earlier or later forms at will).
