擣簁（上刀老反說文手椎也亦築也亦擣也從手壽聲俗作㨶下篩滓反上聲字也韻詮云羂簁也去麤惡而取精細者經文從師作篩平聲字是竹籠非此用俗誤也）。

擣簁 (*dǎoshāi*, pound and sift; the upper character has the fanqie 刀老 [*dāo* + *lǎo*]. The *Shuowen* says: "Pounding with a pestle by hand; also to ram down; also to pound; it is composed of 手 with 壽 as phonetic"; the popular form is written 㨶. The lower character has the fanqie 篩滓 [*shāi* + *zǐ*], being a rising-tone character. The *Yunquan* says: "To strain through a sieve; to remove the coarse and bad and take the fine." In the sūtra text it is written with the *shī* radical as 篩 in the level tone, which is a bamboo basket, not appropriate for this usage; it is a popular error).
