荊棘（上音京顧野王云楚木也故号荊州下兢力反韻詮云酸棗也有刺木說文小棗也叢生者並從二朿朿音次非是朿亦非來也）。

Thorns and brambles (荊棘: for the upper character, the sound is 京 [*jīng*]. Gu Yewang says: "The wood of Chu, hence named Jing Prefecture." For the lower character, *jīng* - *lì* fanqie [*jí*]. The *Yunquan* says: "Sour jujube; a thorny wood." The *Shuowen jiezi* says: "Small jujube, growing in clusters." Both take two 朿; the sound of 朿 is 次 [*cì*]; it is neither 朿 nor 來).
