Dove chick (for the former [character 鴿], gan + la fan; for the latter [character 鶵], chuang + yu fan; the *Yunying* says: "One that has just emerged from the eggshell and can feed itself is called a chick (*chu*)"; it is also written as 雛 with the same meaning; both are phono-semantic compounds).
