號咷（上号高反杜注左傳云號哭也爾雅呼也廣雅鳴也說文痛聲也從虎号聲下唐勞反顧野王云號咷者大哭也泣聲也）。

Wailing aloud (for the former [character 號], hao + gao fan; Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* says: "*Hao* means to weep aloud"; the *Erya* says: "It means to cry out"; the *Guangya* says: "It means to call"; the *Shuowen* says: "A sound of pain; it is formed with 'tiger' (虎) and hao (号) as phonetic"; for the latter [character 咷], tang + lao fan; Gu Yewang says: "*Haotao* means weeping loudly, the sound of crying").
