以枹（拊無反左傳云授枹而鼓之也說文擊皷椎也從木包聲經作桴屋棟也非此義也）。

With a drumstick (fu + wu fan; the *Zuo zhuan* says: "Handing over the drumstick and drumming it"; the *Shuowen* says: "A mallet for striking a drum; it is formed with 'wood' (木) and bao (包) as phonetic"; the sūtra writes it as 桴, meaning a roof ridgepole, which does not carry this meaning).
